Crons Basketball ClubThe Crons Club is dedicated to assisting youth in making informed and positive lifestyle decisions by incorporating educational components into its program which include the promotion of positive values, character development, goal setting, academic achievement, overall fitness and proper nutrition. The Crons Club Program began in 2006 with mostly neighborhood boys from the Hill District of Pittsburgh. The other AAU teams had already picked teams and these boys weren’t selected. The Crons goal at that time (and it remains the same today) was to coach the “B, C, and D” players and turn them into “A, B” players. Crons looks for 3 behaviors when picking players:
- Is the player coachable?
- Does the player play with energy?
- Is the player a “team” player?
Crons believes if we get coachable players that play with energy and understand the term "teamwork" we can improve their game. Note: we didn’t say the most talented players, we said the most coachable. Almost all of the original players have stayed with Crons and today those kids that weren’t good enough when we started are making major contributions at many schools throughout Western Pennsylvania. They have embraced the Come Ready Or Never Start philosophy. From that humble beginning, with practices at the AMMONS Center on Bedford Avenue, the Crons Club Program has grown to the premier AAU program in the Pittsburgh area with teams also in Kentucky. The Come Ready Or Never Start program has kept the same high standards today as it had when Crons started in 2006. Crons believes as the players move through our sequential developmental skills program by the time they reach our top teams they will be ready for the next challenge. Crons offers clinics in test taking skills, study habits, and nutrition education and we offer to schools throughout the country our Crons Achievers Program. We are continuously looking to help our Crons kids improve their game and ultimately play and graduate with a college degree.
